How to Choose a Fisheye Camera

When buying a fisheye camera, you need to ensure you get a high quality camera for great image and video quality. Advik is a leading CCTV camera manufacturer in India with 360 degree revolutionary and panorama fisheye cameras. In this article, we’ll guide you on how to choose the best fisheye camera to suit your needs.

1. The mega pixels of the camera are very critical. Since the fisheye lens is round and the camera sensors are square or rectangular, it is important to opt a camera with about 4 mega pixels. This is because there is high pixel loss even in dewarping the image.

2. Another important and desirable feature in a fisheye camera is, therefore, dewarping. Dewarping is correcting the perspective of an image in an effort to negate the effect of geometric distortions due to the lens.

3. Since fisheye cameras are intended for a circumspect surveillance, you need to pay close attention that the camera covers the desired field of view. There are normally two types of fisheye cameras;

a) Panorama or 360 degree fisheye camera.

This captures circular image of the entire area with dark corners. It is best suited to cover large open areas and getting a bird’s eye view of an area or room.

b) Full frame or 180 degree fisheye camera.

This eliminates the top and bottom regions in the panorama camera. It is best suited for areas that require horizontal surveillance rather than vertical surveillance like traffic intersections and corridors.

4. Lastly, take special note of the FPS (framerates or frames per second). FPS is the ability of the camera to capture great quality video in optimal and low-light conditions without compromising the resolution. The camera should offer at least 15 FPS. As FPS increases tends to 30, the camera’s ability to capture smooth video and quick movements improves.
